Day Seven Saturday 23rd September

Time to get out of London but first we have to pick up a car. Mel and I catch an UBER to Brentford and the Volkswagen showrooms. Easy ride and the place where we are picking up the car is a bit of a VW museum with a bunch of class VWs, campers and Karmann Ghias. We were running a bit late so I didn't take my time nor took any pictures but I will do that when I return the car next week.

Jump in the VW Polo and over to the hotel to pick up Ruby and all the bags. When we get the bags down and outside the car we realise it's a little small. But with a bit of experimentation and Tetris-like skills we get the bags in. Ruby is a bit worried that the whole thing will collapse on her in the back seat.

The trip takes about 4 and a half hours and we hit a few roadworks but eventually we arrive at David and Brenda's house. Great to catch up and stretch our legs after the drive. Put my stuff upstairs and then we are off to take the girls to Sharon and Michael's where they will be staying. They have the backroom done up beautifully. Looks really amazing. It looked very cool last time we were there but now it's even more so. So many technologies that don't seem to exist in Australia. Well not that I know of.

We all walk around to the Water's Edge a pub around the corner. Another cheap and cheerful place but a nice change from the gastropubs in London with their fancy ingredients hidden amongst real food. I have Scampi for the first time. Which is the kind of like tails of prawn in beer batter. And wine. If you buy two glasses of wine you get the bottle! So Sharon and I do just that.

A great time and we walk back to Sharon's. Robbie their son is there and his girlfriend and a couple of others. I'm about to drive back when we have a discussion about the amount of alcohol I have consumed which is two beers and a half a bottle of wine. So I decide not to drive and take a Uber later. So I get another beer and Michael and I have a good chat. Mel and Ruby look like they are having a great time drinking champagne with all the young people which is good to see.
I finally get a taxi home (no Ubers up here) however the driver is new or not familiar with the area and asks me to direct him to the address. I laugh about that and say I've only been in town for a few hours.
When I get home Dave and Brenda are watching Come Dancing With Stars. So we chat and I ring Liz and finally go to bed being exhausted and maybe a little bit wine affected. Lie in bed and close my eyes and off to sleep.
