Day Eighteen Wednesday 4th October
The last day of our holiday. Sun is almost shining so before breakfast I walk down to the Post Office to post the CD to Andy up in St. Annes. The woman in front of me is having a breakdown because she can't send an electric toothbrush to her son in Europe because it has a battery in it. I keep hearing the word Brexit and they all seem to blame Brexit for their misfortune.
Get back to the hotel and have our last brekky. Ruby is staying here and going to France tomorrow. Her travelling companion James is in town now so she she hurries off to meet him. Well not exactly hurried because he's already been here a few hours. Anyway by the time we stroll down to the station, Ruby is still there waiting for a train.
Last day of shopping today and just picked up a few things. Get off at Tottenham Court Road and run into that multimedia room once more. We are heading to Stone Island to pick up a t-shirt for Remi. On the way I find myself on Denmark Street once more I find a rock and roll location I missed last time. The cafe where David Bowie and Marc Bolan used to meet up. La Gioconda. The 2 is Bar around the corner which I mistakenly identified in an earlier post. The 2is trades on its history and if you have to eat there to go downstairs. I prefer it as it looked in Beat Girl and either way we just had breakfast.
Walk past Sister Ray and have a quick browse through the just-in rack. Then we arrive at Stone Island which is the London Flagship Store. Unfortunately, it doesn't have many tees because we are coming up to Winter. So Mel and start making our way to Selfridges on Oxford Street. A pleasant walk and all the shops remind me of the song by Everything but the Girl titled Oxford Street. Selfridges is a very upmarket Department Store full of all the most expensive brands. Stone Island does not have the shirt Remi wants however they have his second choice but only in Medium. The assistant assures me the Medium is like a Large and I end up trying it on and it fits well. Remi is on camera watching and approves of the shirt so I buy it.
We stroll down to Hyde Park checking out souvenir shops on the way as Mel wants to get something for her Grandma. End up having a bit of lunch at Speakers Corner sitting on a bench. Bit windy and slightly cold we decided to head back to the hotel. Really don't need any more shopping or sightseeing. Had quite a big fill of it lately.
Back at the hotel start getting things ready for our departure. My bag seems emptier than when we began. Oh well, it's not the final pack. That will be tomorrow at 5am
Last dinner tonight and we're heading off to Ealing Broadway and the Japanese Restaurant Wagamama. Mel and I stroll up the road and find a seat and then we are joined by James and Ruby. I have a Grilled Chicken Ramen and it's great. Nicely set off with a pale ale. And the girls are treating me to dinner too which is a wonderful surprise. As a thank you. We have a good time but it's time to put James on the train as he is suffering that terrible jet lag. He is staying in a pod in Piccadilly Circus. Great place to begin your adventure.
We train back to the hotel. It's early but Mel wants to pack and I guess if we're getting up at 5am for the long haul we should get an early night's sleep. Maybe a Merlot before bed.
