Day Ten Tuesday 26th September

Off to Liverpool today for a walk around the city and to see some Beatles stuff. And boy is there a lot of Beatles stuff. 1 hour 20 minute drive. Plus a stop at Starbucks for a Flat White.

Easily navigate the car into the centre of town and park the car. From there it is just a short walk to the Cavern Quarter. Pictures of the Beatles everywhere and every shop cafe and pub are related to a Beatles songs. The Rubber Soul bar. Penny Lane Cafe. A statue of Eleanor Rigby. You get the drift.

The first stop ends up being a Beatles shop. Lots of memorabilia. Some tacky and some quite cool. Some cheap and some expensive but it's a bit grungy so it's not too bad. I'm tempted to buy something but I think I have all the Beatles memorabilia I need at home.

Next door is the Beatles Museum. Packed with even more memorabilia but of course not for sale. There are some really cool bits and pieces in here over 3 floors. A lot of the early stuff comes from Pete Best and roadie Neil Aspinall. It's well worth it for a lot of things but I have to point out out some highlights. The music chair gave them to listen to music with. George Harrison's gig case. The Peppers outfits.

From the museum, I walk past the Cavern and the statue of Cilla Black. And Erics (legendary music venue) before peeking into a tacky Beatles shop. Still, I did like the Yellow Submarine pencil case. The sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day so I walk toads the waterfront which has been developed so as to cater for Cruise ships that now dock here.

Enter the main shopping precinct and getting to the top it's kind of an open grassy area with a stage being built at one end for some future performance. Lots of restaurants. Bit of a park on the roof of the building. Not being in the mood to sit just yet I continue walking past the large Liverpool sign and onto the wharf.

Liverpool has a Tate Gallery so I have a bit of lunch in the cafe before having a look around. It's free and it's seriously modern and I enjoy strolling around the gallery. No famous artists just great art.

From The Tate, I walk along the dock chatting to Remi back home. There is another Beatles Exhibition called The Beatles Story but I have had enough Beatles for today. Time to check out some record shops.

Unfortunately, I only found one Record shop Rare Vinyl. But they have some good stuff and I pick up a couple of records. The other record shops Google Maps leads me to abandoned buildings and dark alleys.  So I pop into Boots to get some Nurofen and then make my way to the car park to head home.

I made a quick decision to visit some Beatle landmarks however after the non-event which is Penny Lane I decided to just get on the motorway. Ring Mel, Ruby and Robbie is showing them an excellent time drinking alcohol and playing with a tortoise. I also heard they did cartwheels in the supermarket. I will get the full story tomorrow hopefully.

Have dinner in the house for the first time this trip. Brenda has made chicken, potatoes and salad. I also picked up a bottle of Pinot Noir from Booths. Californian and in honour of Liz I picked the wine by the label. It's called Odd Lot.

To finish off the night we sit and watch a film on Netflix called The Accused. A very good film and made by the same director as Boiling Point which I mentioned previously..

And it's good night.
