Day Nine Monday 25th September
After that magic 9 hours of sleep yesterday last night I slept very little. Bugger. Oh well on with the show.
I remembered I had to get my luggage fixed since the zip was broken on the plane journey. So I pop the bag into the back of the VW Polo and set off to Cobblers Den which sounds like something out of Harry Potter. Hard to get a park because there is a funeral next door so I go up the hill to St. Annes. Which turns out to be fortunate as I find a little shop called Antique Modern. Bunch of records at reasonable prices plus assorted memorabilia including Dinky toys and a lot more. Picked up a Who album which Liz will be excited about. Not.
After dropping off the bag I wander around St. Annes. So many Op Shops but nothing is worth buying. But the sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day. Drive over to pick up Ruby from the Elms because today we are off to Blackpool while Mel goes out for lunch with Ellie.
Blackpool starts off ominously when we park the car. Another car parks next to us and there are so many young people in it's like a circus car when they all get out. Music blaring loudly. Everyone is in black. Walking into Blackpool it looks like some kind of scary movie. There is a solo guitarist playing punk rock pretty badly while so many mobility scooters pass by. I have never seen so many mobility scooters and wheelchairs. The people walking around made Ruby uncomfortable so she would rather wait patiently when I went to the record shops before we both went into the shops she wanted to see.
But we check out the Winter Gardens and the Tower and walk to the Promenade. I love the humorous quote on the foreshore "Shut That Door" but following that up with a walk on the Central Pier is just depressing. Record shops weren't much cop either.
There is a record shop in South Shore I want to check out too and we find it but it's just a mess of overpriced stuff. A lot but the prices are silly. I won't be taking many records home I think.
Back at the Elms, everyone is there and I ask Sharon if I can wash my jeans there because they have a dryer and Dave doesn't. And jeans are so much better in the dryer. After making our plans for tonight I drive home in Michael's pants. LOL.
After a break to elevate my leg. I'm back off to the Elms to meet the gang. This time George is there Ellie's fiancé. Lovely guy. And you can see he fits in well with the Webb family. Meanwhile Ruby has built a side table for her room at the house. Only took 4 hours.
We were going to have Fish and Chips after looking at the Blackpool Illuminations however last orders were at 7:30 so we dashed down to get our meal at The Cottage. Famous for celebrities popping in for a fish and chips after playing the Pier or the Winter Gardens and on their way home. So mostly comedians and actors and most I don't know. We all have light meals but the Cod is still bigger than the plate. Mushy peas too with a slice of white or brown bread. You are supposed to have tea but I have a Budweiser. Mel and Ruby avoid the fish and go for Nuggets and Pie respectively. It's all kind of old-fashioned and fun. The old lady who takes our order takes ages to record our answers.
Then we off to the Illuminations. Starting at the wrong end of course. The Illuminations or Blackpool Lights. Haven't been since I was a small child and still a big drawcard although tonight is quiet, Some great setups and some just ordinary but it's lots of fun to be sitting in the 7-seater Land Rover chatting and making jokes. I can't think of a highlight but it's a great night.
