Day Eight Sunday 24th September
Woke up at 9am after going to bed at midnight which is an amazing 9 hours. Haven't done that for a long while. Wake up really refreshed and here's hoping I have a few more of those while I am on holiday. Have a coffee downstairs with Dave and Brenda and then my niece Sarah turns up with her crazy cocker spaniel Charlie. The dog is relentlessly running around the house pouncing on my leg and showing all the boundless energy of a very large puppy.
After getting myself together Dave and I walk around to Sharon's house where I left my car last night. Over the golf links and past the terrace houses that makeup Lytham St. Annes. A pleasant walk in the early morning sunshine. We pass Sharon driving to the hotel she owns and running to pick up a laptop to find the girls looking after the house. A quick catch up and we're back at Clifton Drive.
The football is on the telly Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur which is a great match which results in a draw. There's not much to do but rest, read and watch the football before we go to Sunday roast at the Cartford Hotel out in the English countryside.
Micheal picks us up in his Land Rover which seats 7 and we drive somewhat erratically through the lanes of small villages. All quite beautiful as we speed through a place called Little Eccleston. And reach our final destination.
The Cartford Inn is another of those pubs in England which features a theme. This one is Modern Art and I love some of the pieces. And every one of them is for sale. So there is a Peter Blake lithograph, a Quadrophenia homage, and a whole room you can rent away from the property which is known as the Bowie room. Fascinating.
There are 13 of us here including Ellie whose wedding we will be attending on Saturday. She is marrying George who can't attend because he looks after residents at a local school. Robbie and his girlfriend, Lucy, Sarah and Sadie. Most of us have the Ham Roast which is excellent especially when combined with a Portuguese Red. Great company once again and a great early evening. Generously Michael and David foot the bill which is considerably large.
On the way home Michael gives us a driving tour of the small village nearby and then some highlights of his life including his Golf Club and the spot where George asked for Ellie's hand in marriage. The Old Links Tee One.
And then we're home for a good chat and a couple of Gin and Tonics before bed.
